EASILY MADE BOOK SHELVES
Very cheap but useful and attractive book shelves are shown in the accom-panying drawing. The vertical strips, A, may be 3/4 in. by 2 in. and are screwed to four shelves, B, each cut to the shape of a quarter circle. The screws are all countersunk and as the heads all come on the side next to the wall, they do not show. The design might be varied somewhat to suit the fancy of the builder, although the appearance of the shelves constructed as shown is very pleasing, especially so if the workmanship is good and the wood carefully stained and varnished. The total cost of construction was less than 75 cents.

Och så är det med "Mission Furniture, How to Make It" av H. H. Windsor, från 1909/10 alla tre delarna finns hos Gutenberg.


Vem skulle inte vilja sno ihop en gungstol — det vill säga, jag skulle hellre sitta och läsa i den, än att gå i närkamp med träbitarna. I förordet sägs: "This book is one of the series of handbooks on industrial subjects being published by the Popular Mechanics Co. Like the magazine, these books are "written so you can understand it," and are intended to furnish information on mechanical subjects at a price within the reach of all." Men att förstå det är nog inte riktigt det samma som att göra det. Inte ens med ritningar och listor över vad för virke man ska köpa, skulle jag ge mig in på det.




The stock for the chair is as follows: Widths and thicknesses are specified exact except for the rear posts and the rockers; but to the lengths enough surplus stock has been added to allow for squaring the ends.

Kanske är det tur att jag inte förmår att utföra en endaste av de presenterade möblerna, var skulle jag ställa dem? Jag har inget behov av vare sig

telefonbord med pall


rökbord



eller porslinsskåp

däremot skulle jag kunna tänka mig den här klockan

och papperskorgen

och den elektriska lampan

och en stol till hallen, som inte ta'r så mycket plats

och bokhyllor med glasdörrar skulle jag verkligen vilja ha

A LADY'S WRITING DESK
This desk of mission style is a little more complicated than some of the other pieces of mission furniture that have been described, but anyone who has a fair knowledge of tools will not have much trouble in constructing it in the home workshop if the plans are carefully followed. Quarter-sawed oak is the best wood to use, as it is easy to work and looks best when finished. Order the stock from the mill ready cut to length, squared and sanded.

Jag kan inte påstå att jag någonsin har saknat en hallklocka i ek, men nu när jag ser den, så grips jag av habegär.

Däremot är jag inte säker på att jag tänker tillverka den här biblioteksmöbeln — fast när jag ändå är i farten kanske jag snickrar ihop den.
